Model and dental hygienist Katerina Shapiro is a true embodiment of balance and self-belief. From Berlin’s vibrant energy to the quiet strength of motherhood, she shares how passion, discipline, and kindness guide every facet of her life.

Katerina, you are such a positive and multifaceted person. You combine modelling with a career in the medical field — tell us how these different professions coexist in your life. How did your journey towards the dream of becoming a model begin, and when did you decide to bring it to life?

I’ve always been someone who has found multitasking quite natural. I’m a creative person, and I enjoy working with my hands. Performing a dental cleaning is also about connecting with people — providing them with the necessary care and easing their fears. In truth, it’s all about putting love into everything you do.

Modelling and being in front of the camera is my passion. I savour every moment on set — and even more so when I see the results. The most important thing is organising my day effectively — balancing motherhood, modelling, and my work as a dental hygienist. Self-discipline and time management are essential.

At 39, I finally found the courage to pursue what I had always dreamed of. I launched my Instagram page and began sharing glimpses of my life — simply following the dreams I had as a child.

You live in Berlin — a city with a powerful cultural energy. What inspires you most about living there?

The possibilities here are endless! Berlin is incredibly open-minded when it comes to all forms of art — from the classical to the avant-garde. Sometimes I find it unfortunate that there are only 24 hours in a day — as there can be several events in one day that I’d love to attend.

The city feels so free and welcoming.

At the same time, it’s possible to live in a quiet neighbourhood, surrounded by nature and more traditional communities. I appreciate that contrast deeply.

What is the most valuable lesson you strive to pass on to your children?

Whatever you do, do it with love and kindness. See the beauty in everything. Be courageous enough to try new things, and never fear failure — it’s always an opportunity for growth.
Of course, school is important 😉 — but above all, remain true to yourself in every situation and never lie to yourself. That’s what truly matters.

How have you changed internally over the past year of running your Instagram blog? What does it mean to you to be an inspiration for other women, and how do you experience that sense of mission? What advice would you offer women over 35 regarding self-acceptance and unlocking their potential?

It’s been a profound transformation — particularly in terms of having the courage to post every photo. You wonder, “What if people judge me or laugh?” But then I remind myself: “You’re amazing. You’re trying. You’re daring to do this. You’re improving and becoming more professional.”

And when I receive heartfelt feedback — even from just three people — kind, sincere words, it fills me with pride and reminds me it wasn’t in vain.

Yes, this is about motivation. Some people have told me, “You inspired me to do the same,” or, “You encouraged me to take up sport again.” They’ve said, “We love you, thank you for your work and for sharing your achievements.”

I believe that after 35, we simply gain more experience and confidence to pursue our dreams. We begin to truly value our time and the people around us — and we care far less about what others think.

Motherhood, work, and following your dream require a great deal of focus. How do you recharge, and where do you find inner strength when you’re tired or facing challenges?

First and foremost — inner energy. I prioritise getting enough rest, staying disciplined, and staying organised. I also practise meditation and try to remain calm in all situations. Meditation brings me a sense of inner peace and clarity.

Even my children understand that when I’m feeling overwhelmed, I need to meditate or take a quick nap — and they respect that. After just twenty minutes, I feel like a new person. That’s my “me time”, and everyone can find a few moments just for themselves.
And of course, there’s travel. It’s the most effective way to recharge. A change of scenery — the sun, good food, and time with loved ones — works wonders. Being grateful for these moments allows you to give more love to others, and in return, you receive so much more.
